Our Workbook Advantages

Teaching our program is just as enjoyable as learning from it! NAC only takes 15 minutes a day and it naturally integrates with the Startwrite/NAC worksheet software. Learning cursive doesn’t have to mean hours spent writing sentence after repetitious sentence!

Teach Yourself Cursive

The New American Cursive Penmanship Program isn’t just for young students. The Teach Yourself Cursive Workbook is written so that older students and adults can easily develop a good, unique cursive style too, and still have fun while learning all of it.

New American Cursive Penmanship Program

New American Cursive is honored and humbled to be the recipient of Practical Homeschooling’s Reader Award for 2019.

This program presents a simplified set of letter forms and a refined multi-sensory method that help young students–and adults–develop the necessary skills to learn cursive and write well.

Founded and developed by handwriting specialist Iris Hatfield, with over 35 years of experience, NAC recognizes that everyone’s handwriting is unique. Each workbook is written to assist students at different levels, starting at the first grade, in not just learning the rules, but realizing and expressing their own unique and articulate cursive handwriting style. The workbooks are top-bound, making them equally accessible for left-handed or right-handed writers, and include instructions on posture for either approach.

The innovative methodology of the New American Cursive curriculum is accompanied and reinforced by time-tested values. With inspiring historical quotes and–also versions available with passages of scripture, students are encouraged to cultivate a world-view as strong as their writing abilities.

Every aspect of the New American Cursive Penmanship Program, from the workbooks to the supplementary StartWrite/NAC software, is conscientiously designed to make an enjoyable and enriching experience for students and teachers while making all the connections between a valid handwriting style and a viable cursive.

Annual New American Cursive Penmanship Contest

New American CursiveⓇ Penmanship Contest for 2024 is fast approaching.

April 10 is the absolute last postmark date for mailing.

As we announced last year, the contest has been changed to include only grades one through three. We suggest holding an in-house contest for other grades, judged by students and teachers.
